Chapter 14

CLAIRE

In Bobbi and Claire’s living room…

“Here, put this on your hand, Claire,” Natalie said handing her a pack of peas. Natalie sat next to her on the couch. “I can’t believe you dropped that girl like that. I know them your peoples, but I’m five seconds from calling child protective services on that bitch, Claire. That’s on Jesus Christ our savior!

“I could’ve killed her, Natalie,” Claire said placing the peas on her swollen hand. “I could’ve literally smashed her face into the back of her skull. I tried but Tristan kept crying because he was scared.”

“You could have?” she joked. “You did smash her face in.”

“I’m serious,” Claire yelled. “I wanted to murder her. I fucking can’t believe she snatched Tristan by his arm like that. I mean who the fuck do she think she is? She don’t love that baby like I do. She never did and she never will.”

Natalie placed her hand on Claire’s knee. “Claire, maybe you should come to the realization that he is not your son. I mean, I know you love him, believe me I do, but he’s not yours. He never was and he never will be. So let it go. I mean if anything you can have your own baby. Shit, you still young.”

Claire’s shoulders hunched over. “I can’t have no baby,” Claire responded walking away from her. “You don’t understand.”

“What you mean you can’t? Shit, I know at least two fine ass niggas right now on speed dial who would kill to fuck you and have a—”

“You don’t understand,” she said throwing the peas down on the floor. “I can’t have any babies, Natalie. I mean I can’t hold them in my body. I wish I could but I can’t. So Tristan was like my baby, and now he’s gone. After what I did to Bobbi she never gonna let me see that baby again. If you didn’t see her snatch the baby arm, and threaten to call the police to report her, she would’ve called the cops again on me to put me out.”

Natalie walked up to her. “The way I see it you still don’t have a problem, because if it’s a baby you want,” she said rubbing her hair backwards, “then I can do that for you. Just say the word, Claire.”

“Natalie, what are you talking about?” Claire walked away, and Natalie followed her again.

“I don’t want you to have to depend on that bitch for nothing, Claire. So if you want a baby, that ain’t nothing. I know what I’m saying but I want you to hear me too, and believe me.”

Claire looked into her eyes. “And why would you do something like that? You don’t even know me that well.”

Natalie stepped so close to Claire she couldn’t move anymore. “Because I love you.” She kissed her on the lips. “Don’t you see that? Can’t you tell? Because I know Bobbi can. That’s why she hates me so much.”

Claire couldn’t lie. She felt a tingling sensation coursing through her body.
